The circular recycling of all end-of-life artificial turf pitches
In 2018 the 4 largest turf producing companies in The Netherlands founded the ‘Artificial Turf Recycling Alliance’, striving to circular recycle all end-of-life artificial turf pitches to reusable raw materials.
During 2019, the alliance made the investments to realize a future-proof solution and founded the company GBN-AGR (Artificial Grass Recycling). They also made preparations in terms of acquiring and testing the recycling plant, guaranteeing the recycling process, determining and licencing the location and certifying the process. Already in the 2019 summer season, 70% of all end-of-life turf, taken off fields in The Netherlands, was gathered in a permitted temporarily location and partly recycled. In the first quarter of 2020, the permanent location in the circular hub of the Port of Amsterdam, the GBN-AGR recycling plant, will be fully operational.
