The revolutionary renewable backing coating
Aiming to replace traditional SBR latex coating, the sustainability benefits of our renewable ‘Edel Xero’ backing coating are tremendous. This water-based disperse coating contains a ‘secret’ key ingredient sourced from recycled end-of-life turf components supplied by Re-Match turf recycling.
With ‘Edel Xero’ as our first product crafted with recycled turf component, our R&D really cracked the nut when it comes to applying renewable circular recycled raw materials into turf products. The result is a sustainable replacement for SBR coatings on artificial turf products for sports as well as landscaping.

Environmental benefits
Besides the benefits coming from recycling, the new coating process requires significantly less water compared to what is needed when coating with latex. The result is a huge saving on energy and emissions as less water evaporation is necessary compared to a traditional coating process.
Research shows that savings on the ECI (including CO2 emission) as part of the Life-Cycle Analysis (LCA) on an artificial turf pitch with ‘Edel Xero’ backing coating applied, can be as much as 43,3% compared to a traditional turf system during its life cycle. *
* Results coming from the LCA on an ‘Edel Athmos’ 3G system, containing ‘Edel Xero’ backing coating, built on a renewable shock pad and using a biological performance infill like cork, compared to a traditional 3G SBR filled system.
Performance compared
The final ‘Edel Xero’ product is a little stiffer than its traditional opponent once applied. Due to this, ‘Edel Xero’ coating offers increased lateral stability compared to latex coating.
Besides the environmental benefits coming from reused materials and the reduced use of energy and water, resulting in a significant decrease on the ECI, it delivers increased tuftlock and adds an improved dimensional stability to the carpet. Needless to say ‘Edel Xero’ is the better choice on all fronts offering a vastly improved sustainability to the turf industry.
Processability
In addition to the quality and environmental characteristics of the coating and production process itself, we have also researched and clarified all installation methodology to align with our partners on a global basis.
As with all new developments, through intensive testing we have ensured that our installation partners can maintain their tried and tested components and methods when installing an artificial turf field containing ‘Edel Xero’. To ensure global compliance and accreditation all installation will be supported by our installation and maintenance support documentation.
