Innovation and sustainability at the sports accommodations trade fair 2025
On March 20, we will be present at the Sports Accommodations Trade Fair in Expo Houten. During this key industry event, as Edel Grass, we will showcase a range of newly approved systems for football, hockey, and tennis. These systems are not only sustainably designed but also comply with the recently introduced PEFCR standards to manage environmental footprint.
With existing and newly developed systems, we already offer realistic solutions for sports clubs, municipalities, and installation partners looking to think, develop, and build in a circular way. The reuse of recycled materials, the reduction of fossil raw materials in products, and significant environmental cost savings are central to this initiative. The objective as set by the EU is to reuse at least 50% of plastic waste by 2030, with the ultimate goal of achieving 100% reuse by 2050. No time to waste. With Edel Grass’ latest developments, these objectives are well within reach.

At the trade-fair ‘Vakbeurs Sportaccomodations’, we will present groundbreaking sustainable and circular product innovations. One such innovation is our Turf-to-Turf™ technology backing coating, Edel Xero, introduced last year. This revolutionary backing coating is made with 43% recycled end-of-life turf components, replacing traditional latex coatings, making it a major step forward in sustainability.
Edel Athmos – Circular renewable Post-to-Play™ 3G system
Additionally, we showcase our independently proven and most durable turf system currently available on the market: Edel Athmos. This Post-to-Play™ system is made with 50% recycled post-consumer plastic components. It reduces the Environmental Cost Indicator, when installed with Edel Xero backing coating, by an impressive 43,3% over its sports-technical lifespan compared to traditional turf systems.
Renewability
Due to one-polymer component design, which is basically our premise when designing durable products, our Turf-to-Turf™ and Post-to-Play™ technology innovations are all perfect re- and upcyclable towards new circular raw materials of high quality. With this vision in mind we lower the demand for virging raw materials as well as stimulating reuse or recycling.
Edel Twinblade – Approved mineral infill system
As the industry seeks to address the issue of microplastics entering the environment, mineral-filled systems are increasingly becoming the standard. In Houten we present our approved mineral-filled solutions for 2G football pitches, providing a sustainable alternative to polymeric or rubber-infused 3G systems. Available for mineral infill is our traditional Edel Twinblade system. Which also features 3G possibilities when installed with natural performance infills, such as cork or a natural infill mix.
Edel Duell – Circular renewable Post-to-Play™ mineral infill system
Currently undergoing lasts tests is the durable alternative to Edel Twinblade, called Edel Duell. This circular renewable product is also crafted with Post-to-Play™ technology, thus making use of 50% post-consumer recycled plastics in both its yarn structures. When equiped with Edel Xero backing coating in stead of latex, Edel Duell is the latest game-changer in the Edel Grass portfolio offering environmentally friendly solutions!
Edel Aero – Approved Dry-to-Play™ hockey system
Last but not least, we introduce our solution for dry hockey: the Edel Aero Dry-to-Play™ hockey system. Available in regular colors, this innovative system is already internationally approved by the FIH (Non-irrigated and Global) and can currently be installed in the Netherlands under restrictions of the innovation pilot initiated by KNHB and NOC-NSF.
