From worn natural grass pitch to
a future-proof football surface

The Rectory Meadow sports facility is more than a pitch. It is the heart of Hanworth Villa FC and Samurai Rovers FC and its community. Within Hanworth Villa’s ‘One Club, One Home’ strategy, they wanted to create on this home ground a reliable, safe and high-quality playing surface that could support football at every level, throughout the entire year.

Choosing Edel Grass

To realise this ambition, the club worked with Blakedown Sport & Play, who proposed to install an Edel Grass full-size FIFA Quality pitch, using our Edel Hybridblade 3G turf system. Hanworth Villa choice was the result of a careful evaluation. They where looking for a system that combines realism and player comfort with durability, environmental responsibility and outstanding performance characteristics.

Rather than simply replacing a grass pitch with synthetic turf, the project focussed on building a surface that behaves like natural grass at its best, but without the limitations caused by wear and weather.

The technology beneath the surface

The new pitch at Rectory Meadow consists of a prefabricated shock pad topped with an Edel Hybridblade 3G system featuring sand and a performance infill layer. This layered construction is engineered to work as a single, integrated playing system according to FIFA Quality standards.

A safer and more comfortable playing experience

Player welfare was central to the design of the new surface. The Edel Hybridblade system offers low skin abrasion, reduced infill splash and comfortable temperature control, even during warm weather periods. The qualities contribute to a playing environment where both senior and youth players can perform at their best while feeling secure and supported by the surface beneath them.

Football, uninterrupted

Since the installation of the new Edel Hybridblade system, the club has been able to enjoy reliable, year-round playability. Training schedules are no longer dictated by rainfall, and community programmes have expanded thanks to the consistency of the surface. Where natural grass once struggled, the system now ensures availability, durability and predictable maintenance.

Supporting club ambitions

The renewed pitch has become a key element in Hanworth Villa’s long-term vision. It enables more hours of football, supports youth development and strengthens community engagement. Above all, it gives players a professional-quality surface that reflects the club’s ambition on and off the pitch.

“The quality of the new pitch you have installed is truly superb! We are regularly receiving enquiries from other non-league clubs who want to mirror what we have done at Hanworth Villa. With the combination of your new 3G turf system and the green infill we chose, honestly I don’t think there is anything better in the non-league scene, and that’s exactly what all new visitors and players are saying. I am sure these reviews will lead to more and new business.”

Looking ahead

With its high-performing 3G turf system, Rectory Meadow now stands ready for the future. The new pitch is more than an upgrade in technology; it represents a commitment to performance, safety and sustainability. For Hanworth Villa FC, it marks the beginning of a new chapter. One where football can flourish every day of the year.
