Sporting Andijk evolves into a modern multi-sport destination
What was once a sports park shared by a handful of clubs has been transformed into a vibrant, multifunctional destination where no fewer than five sports now come together. At Sporting Andijk, football, tennis, padel, handball and korfball now share a renewed facility that has been designed to meet the growing needs of both the municipality and its sports community.
Commissioned by the Municipality of Medemblik and Sporting Andijk, supported by sports consultancy experts at Simoove, we teamed up with our partner Antea Sport to help realise this ambitious redevelopment. The challenge was clear: create additional capacity for emerging sports such as padel and integrate tennis into the existing complex, while making the best possible use of the available space.
The solution required smart planning and a careful redesign of the existing layout. Part of a korfball field was repurposed to make room for three new tennis courts, while an additional tennis court and four padel courts were constructed. At the same time, an existing synthetic turf korfball field was completely renovated, ensuring that all sports could continue to enjoy high-quality playing conditions.
A key element of the project was sustainability. For the renovated korfball field, the Edel Grass Elite LSR system with sand infill was selected. The project also incorporated recycled granulite as foundation material, giving existing resources a second life while reducing environmental impact. It is an example of how sports infrastructure projects can combine performance with responsible material use.
For the new tennis facilities, the focus was on creating a playing experience that meets the expectations of modern players. The courts were built on a foam concrete foundation and finished with Advantage Red Court, Edel Grass’ dedicated tennis surface. Known for its consistent ball behaviour, player comfort and durability, the system provides a reliable playing surface throughout the year.
Today, Sporting Andijk is more than a sports park. It is a place where multiple sports, clubs and generations come together. With renewed infrastructure, expanded facilities and high-performance Edel Grass systems at its core, the complex is ready to serve the community for many years to come.
