After 4 months of construction and the help of numerous volunteers living in the area, on May 16th 2019 the people in Ciudadela Sucre enjoyed the grand opening of their soccer pitch located in Cancha Bellavista, Ciudadela Sucre. A suburb of Soacha, Colombia.
The opening ceremony was attended by local authorities and 3 former Argentinian players. They each symbolically placed their footprints by laying a brick. Juan Pablo Sorín, former Barcelona FC and Juventus player, opened the ceremony by addressing the crowd: “As long as there is football, there is hope.” And so it is.
Tiempo de Juego
Initiator Tiempo de Juego, a non-profit organisation helping communities in Colombia, gathered all necessary funding and supporting parties. Together they realised this soccer field in a suburb of the city Soacha, located in the very south-west of Bogota, Colombia. Small as it is, the field plays an important role in the community, bringing people together and offering youth a chance to grow up playing soccer and build friendships. Together with local schools also a programme will be launched to develop talented players. This will create a chance for them to promote to the lower classes of soccer or even grow to 1st class. Why not they say!
The importance of supporting
As an artificial grass producer, Edel Grass finds it very important to play a role in community supporting initiatives like this. Together with our local installing partner Agora Sport, which we worked with in Europe for many years, our producing partner Cuperz and supplier RDM Recycling, we were able to offer the organisation and the neighbourhood their field. Before it could be realised and installed, funding and support from UEFA Foundation, Foundation Love Fútbol, Pavimentos Colombia was requested and organised by Tiempo de Juego.
We thank all involved to make this project a winning one for the Protagonists, community of Ciudadela Sucre!
