The rise of 3G and 4G pitches
Everyone loves sports. Good for both body and mind, for many it’s a stress reliever. Therefore, it isn’t hard to believe that almost half of the population practice a sport one way or another. That means that 336 million people need a place to do what they love. That’s where we come in. At Edel Grass we supply clubs and municipalities with 3g or 4g solutions to enhance the durability and safety of pitches and courts whilst limiting day-to-day maintenance. With that being said, we’d love to elaborate upon our newest generation of pitches; our 4G pitches. Our environmentally friendly sports grass that aligns with our ideals for sustainability.
What are 4G pitches?
The term 4G pitch signifies the fourth generation of pitches. The current generation, 3G is latest generation recognized by sporting governing bodies. However, the steps we’ve made in our 4G pitches could see this next generation become the new standard. Examples are our 3G football pitches. Currently, we are a FIFA preferred provider for our 3G pitches. This means our standards for 3G pitches adhere to the guidelines set out by FIFA themselves. However, our 4G pitches are effectively the exact same system with one key difference. The product of our innovation limits the use of plastics in the design.
The improvement 3G made over 2G pitches was the higher pile height and switching out harsh sand-infill with mixed crumb infill. This crumb infill unfortunately contains plastics that we seek to cycle out of existence to improve the environment. We offer our clients the option to install 4G pitches and courts, but we do so with the warning that 4G systems as of yet cannot be used in official competitive games as stated by FIFA and other sports governing bodies.

Understanding the impact our systems have on the environment has led us to develop 4G pitches to competition level quality.
